Turdsay 10th (Rest day evening)
Very happy with the evening in Ljubljana. I had a couple of beers whilst whacthing Finland Vs USA in ice hockey with my room mates. Smiles all around because Finland won. I then went to the cinema with another dude from the hostel to watch 300. What a great film, and the cool thing was that it was in English with Slovenian sub titles so I could understand. The cinema is ultra-modern and much better than Vue in Plymouth and it cost less that 5 euro's. That is the first film I have seen in 8 weeks. I am well into my 4th book but only seen 1 film. Not bad for guy with 150 DVD's.
Friday 11th May (Day 46)
Quite a nice ride, the aim was to get to a place called Bled which was not to far away. I was very tired and felt that I was not up to 100% in the energy department. I passed some nice sights on the way, such as farming methods I have not seen before,
and I folled a large river for a bit
Throughout the day I could see the Alps to the North of me,
and I took this photo for you Tom. It is not quite, but almost like your favourates
Bled is next to a beautiful lake which has Slovenia's only island within it.
My camp site was next to this lake and I got very excited when I saw an GB number plate so I had a little chat. They are a lovely couple from the Lake District that are touring round Europe in their motor home. The cool thing was that they invited me over for dinner and a couple of beers. So I would again like to say many thanks for looking after me that evening.
Saturday 12th May (Day 47)
Aim, to get to Kobarid. This was a bit more of a challenging day. I had a high pass to cross on route so I set out early and followed the river Sava Bohinjka for a bit.
I then had to start to climb from 500m to 1277m over 16km. Here is me at the top.
As I started to descend I noticed there was still snow at 12oom. I find that suprising considering it is now May.
So this means that I have seen snow in every country apart from Portugal (Saw it up on the mountain in Italy but did not get to play in it) I had a good descent down from the pass (see video).
Soon after that I was following the Soca,
along the road to Kobraid.
When I got there I found a nice camp site next to the gorge,
so I went for a little explore in the evening.
Also at this camp site I got talking to a group of Austrians, and can you guess what, they gave me beer.
Sunday 13th May (Day 48)
I descided that I wanted to play in the river, as in go canyoning and maybe a bit of rafting. So I only had a short trip to Bovec which is the place to sort all of the water sports adventures out. So I followed the Soca up to there. A beautiful river with crystal clear waters,
and some cool gorges.
There are little wooden slatted bridges going over the river so I went for a better view.
But I thought it best not to venture accross this one. I looked at it and thought ˝Temple of Doom˝
But anyway I stopped in Bovec and this is the view of what I have to cross to get to Austria.
I was in Bovec around 2pm and it turned out that I could go rafting that afternoon. Quite a good little trip. I was in a boat with an Austrian family who had never been white water rafting, so I was seen as the expirienced one of the group. I thoguht that that was a cool title. But because they were beginners we went on an easy section of the river, grade 1-2 max. So it did not get my pulse rate up at all, nothing major in the slightest. Not like when I was in the Ottawa river in Canada a few years back, now they are some awsome rapids. But it was still a good afternoon out on the crystal clear waters, a change from cycling. Can not complain because afterwards the Austrian family treated me and the guide to a beer. With all these Austrians I am meeting giving me beer I am looking forward to going there on Tuesday. I wonder if they give you a 4 pack on entry.
Monday 14th May (Rest day)
Well it will not be much of a rest day because I am going canyoning at 2pm. This is what I really wanted to do yesterday so I could of cycled to Austria today. But nevermind. I am really excited about this. Hopefully I will get the same guide. He was talking to me about it and i get the feeling that he would be up for taking me on a challenging route. So I will let you know what happens in the next post.
It is a bit of a cliff hanger ending, and that is what I could be doing this afternoon, hanging off a bit of a cliff. Do not worry Mum or Dad, they are really professional people. I do not think that they will be too hung over or stonned at 2pm (HOPEFULLY).
Cheers
