Germany

Ok people I am now in Berlin, I have covered 3551 miles. There has obviously been a miscalculation some where along the line because I reckon I have another 1000 to go. I have loved cycling in Germany (Country number 10). There are so many cycle travks. I have probably only spent 30% of my time on the roads and they have been quite country roads. Not much to say this week, no real adventures as such, just good cycling.

Sat 26th (Day 57)

I left Prague in the am and headed North, quite a nice day. The highlight was the camp site I stayed at in the evening. It was free of charge, how cool is that. The funny thing about it was that you had to pay CZK 20 for a shower (50p) and only CZK18 for a pint of beer from the bar. An interesting point I feel.

Sun 27th (Day 58)

I crossed into Germany just after midday, and then followed a cycle path next to the river Elbe,
Which went all the way to Dresden where I stayed in a very nice hostel for the night.
Mon 28th (Day 59)

The ride on Monday was pretty uneventful. The major activity was at night when the storm came over the camp site. I had to take shelter in the toilet blocks and I was glad that I had a tent to go back to it was that bad. I hope the videos do it justice. I like the way that you cam see the camera shake when the lightning goes off pretty close to where I was. It was a bit of a shock.

Tue 29th (Day 60)

A great day, saw some nice sights on the way such as this windmill.
But I had a little techniqual difficulty on the way. Another spoke snapped on the back wheel so I had to take it out and try and true the wheel up.
Supprising sight of the day was this statue that I came across in a small place called Bischdorf.
I have been looking around Berlin for the past 4 days and all the memorials are quite abstrack. You do not see any featuring any German soldiers. I guess some people would be offended by that. So I was supprised to see one in this little village. But I liked it, I thought that in war there are no winners just a huge loss of life, on both sides. It is not nessisarally the soldiers that are evil, so we should remember them. That is obviously what this guy is doing with his bowed head. Well that is just my opinion and I hope that I have not offended any of you.

On a lighter note I then came across this beautiful area on the the way to Lübben
and had a little look at these mini-beasts. Sorry Anna, Freshwater Macro-Invertebrates. Next competition, geographers what are they?
This was also the place where I went for my first swim since Slovenia.
Wed 30th (Day 61)

Another good day, cycled along a variaty of cycle paths

Which was quite nice and I also passed the 3500 mile mark in a small village called.
Thu 31st (day 62)

I got into Berlin in the early afternoon and I was very happy because I said that I wanted to get to here before the end of May.

Berlin

Really nice city, I have walked around and saw some of the sights

An interesting city becaue it is really modern in places
This is a bit of the old Berlin wall still in its original postion.
And this is what I want for my 30th birthday. So if you all want to chip in that would be fantastic. How cool does it look. I think that the spair tyres on the roof are a little bit like pig-tails so I find myself strangly attracked to it. I think that I have been away for too long by myself.
This is one of those abstrack memorials, it is for rememberance of the murdered Jews of Europe. It had information rooms under the structure and I can not fully describe what it made you feel, but it is an excellent memorial.
These building to me look a little bit like an upmarket Mount Wise and these are the flats that you would live in if you made it in the former East Berlin. So this is where all the olympic sports stars lived.
To sum it up I have enjoyed my time in Berlin, 4 days is not enough. I have had some good nights out with people from the hostel and went on a pub crawl. Almost did not get in to the night club, the bouncer pretty much picked me up and threw me out of the line. He said I was to drunk, but I was fine, I think that he did not like the boardies considering it was a Saturday night. I got in in the end so all turned out well and good.

Any way that is about it. I am leaving Berlin today and I should cross into Poland tomorrow (Tuesday).

Cheers
